This operational flexibility aims to provide immediate support to the Albanian people amid the critical conditions they face.
Effective Firefighting Operations
The UAE rescue team continues its efforts to extinguish the extensive wildfires raging in several areas of the Republic of Albania, having conducted 21 specialized aerial missions to date using two Black Hawk helicopters.
The firefighting operations have included 419 precise water drops on fire hotspots, utilizing over 737,000 kilograms of water, which has significantly contributed to containing the fires and limiting their spread. These strategies have proven effective in reducing the size of the fires and mitigating the negative impacts on the environment and local communities.
Field Challenges
Despite these successes, the UAE rescue team faces significant field challenges, including extremely high temperatures and the rugged geographical nature of the affected areas. The operations are conducted in close collaboration and continuous coordination with the relevant Albanian authorities, reflecting the spirit of solidarity and cooperation between nations during times of crisis.
Coordinating Efforts with Albanian Authorities
The team began its operations in the forests of Gramsh and surrounding areas, following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to support the Republic of Albania in controlling the wildfires. Coordination meetings are held regularly between the UAE team and Albanian officials to devise necessary plans that ensure the acceleration of firefighting efforts.
This meticulous coordination ensures the immediate activation of joint efforts, alongside ongoing field monitoring of areas where fires have been extinguished to prevent their resurgence. The team’s dedication and professionalism in confronting this environmental disaster highlight the importance of international cooperation in such times.
