UAE Recognized as Premier Destination for York Sticks

The thoroughbred “Never So Brief” has brought notable glory to his Emirati owner, Saeed Suhail, clinching the prestigious title of the “City of York Stakes,” a Group 1 race spanning 1,400 meters. This remarkable event took place on Saturday at the historic York Racecourse, serving as the highlight of the concluding day of the renowned English Ebor Festival. The victory echoes the persistent excellence of Emirati horses in international racing, as they continue to gain recognition on the world stage.

Masterful Performance at York

Under the expert guidance of trainer Andre Balding, “Never So Brief” demonstrated exceptional talent and strategy. The race was intense, and jockey Oisin Murphy skillfully managed to maintain the horse’s energy during the early stages. Positioned close to the leading pack, Murphy unleashed the full potential of “Never So Brief” during the final 300 meters, propelling him ahead of his competitors. Crossing the finish line in a time of 1 minute and 22.93 seconds, the horse secured first place by a margin of half a length over the second-placed competitor, the British horse “Lake Forest,” trained by William Haggas and ridden by Tom Marquand.

Further Triumphs for Emirati Horses

The day did not solely belong to “Never So Brief.” Emirati horses continued their winning streak when “King of Cities,” representing Sheikh Mohammed bin Obaid Al Maktoum and trained by Richard Hannon, triumphed in the first race of the day, the “Strensall Stakes,” a Group 3 event covering 1,800 meters on grass. This dual success highlights the remarkable capabilities and training of horses from the UAE, solidifying their status in the high-stakes world of thoroughbred racing.

A Rich Tradition of Excellence

The victory in the “City of York Stakes” is not just a testament to the horse’s skill, but also to the growing presence of Emirati investment in the equestrian sports arena. The continuous success of horses like “Never So Brief” at prestigious events emphasizes the UAE’s commitment to nurturing equestrian talent and participating actively in international competitions. This legacy reflects not only the ambition of Emirati owners but also their determination to leave an indelible mark on the sport.

As the season progresses, the excitement surrounding Emirati horses intensifies. The triumph of “Never So Brief” at the “City of York Stakes” further establishes the UAE’s prominence in the equestrian world, signaling a bright future for horse racing in the region.
