This summer, the Louvre Abu Dhabi is set to captivate families with its new cinema programme, “Art and Film.” The series kicks off with a screening of the beloved animated classic, “Aladdin,” and promises to showcase a family-friendly film every Saturday throughout the summer. This initiative is part of the museum’s efforts to blend visual arts with cinematic experiences, providing an educational yet entertaining atmosphere suitable for all ages.
A Celebration of Art and Animation
The screening of “Aladdin” will be accompanied by a spotlight on an exquisite artefact from the museum’s collection—a beautifully adorned carpet reminiscent of the mythical ‘flying carpet’ concept, inspired by the historical Medallion Carpet that dates back over 500 years and was crafted in Turkey. This display exemplifies the intricate beauty of Islamic art and its rich storytelling traditions.
Linking Film and Artistic Heritage
Ali Ahmed Kashwani, Senior Production Officer at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, emphasised that the “Art and Film” programme aims to connect timeless artworks with the realm of cinema. He noted that the choice of “Aladdin” was inspired by the Medallion Carpet, which encapsulates the essence of the legendary ‘flying carpet’ found in the film.
Cultivating a Passion for Museums
Kashwani highlighted the cultural impact of this initiative, notably its focus on engaging younger audiences. “This event targets children primarily, enabling them to see the direct link between animated films and real-life artworks. This engagement will help foster a generation that is passionate about visiting museums,” he stated.
A Programme of Diversity and Inclusion
Running for five weeks from 25 July to 22 August 2026, the “Art and Film” programme will encompass both Arab and international cinema, promoting cultural diversity among younger generations. Through this blend of artistic expression, the Louvre Abu Dhabi continues its mission of enriching the cultural landscape while inspiring curiosity and creativity within its community.
