In a remarkable achievement, student Sundus Mohammed Al-Sayed Rehab has won the title of Champion of the Arab Reading Challenge at the level of Al-Azhar in its tenth edition, surpassing competitors from all over the Arab Republic of Egypt. Sundus stood out among 2,929,597 students representing 9,879 Al-Azhar institutes in a competition aimed at promoting a love of reading among youth and developing their linguistic skills.
Prominent Presence During the Awards Ceremony
Sundus Mohammed Al-Sayed Rehab was crowned during the closing ceremony held in Cairo, attended by several prominent figures, including Hamad Obaid Al-Zaabi, the UAE Ambassador to Egypt, and Sheikh Ayman Abdul-Ghani, the Acting Deputy of Al-Azhar. The ceremony also witnessed participation from officials, educators, and parents of students who took part in the finals.
Competition Results and Distinction
Student Mohammed Al-Amir Zakariya Riyad from the seventh grade was awarded the title of Best Student in the category for People of Determination, with 3,910 students participating in this category. The Beni Suef region was also honored for securing first place in the “Outstanding Supervisor” category. Among the ten students who excelled in the finals at the level of Al-Azhar were Hussein Hazem Hussein, Haneen Mohammed Omar Ahmed, and others, who demonstrated high levels of reading proficiency.
Wide Participation in the Arab Reading Challenge
Over the years, the Arab Reading Challenge has achieved increasing milestones, with the number of participants in its tenth edition reaching 40,286,428 students from 60 countries. This figure marks a significant increase of 24% compared to the previous edition, reflecting the growth and success of the initiative in attracting more participants. The edition recorded participation from over 138,000 schools, highlighting the significant expansion of the event.
Goals of Continuous Improvement in Reading
Sheikh Ayman Abdul-Ghani emphasized that this edition resulted in remarkable achievements, as Al-Azhar students demonstrated clear excellence in engaging with the reading challenge, reflecting their efforts and high interest in reading. Thus, the Arab Reading Challenge is considered a successful model in promoting a culture of reading and enriching knowledge throughout the Arab world, reinforcing the position of the Arabic language as a foundation for science and creativity.
The journey of the Arab Reading Challenge, launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2015, continues to enhance the importance of reading and strengthen understanding and culture among students. Through this initiative, the challenge aims to build a generation of distinguished and influential readers, both in scientific and cultural fields.
