The Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, has unveiled ambitious new projects aimed at developing main and internal roadways linking the emirates of Sharjah and Dubai at a cost of 750 million dirhams. This initiative seeks to enhance connectivity while revitalizing the region’s infrastructure, showcasing Sharjah’s commitment to growth and openness.
Enhancing Connectivity Between Sharjah and Dubai
During a recent interview on the program “Direct Line,” Sheikh Dr. Sultan highlighted plans for a significant new roadway that will facilitate traffic between the two emirates. Among the projects is the long-awaited “Al Noor Road,” which will originate from Al Arouba Street and lead directly into Dubai. The Ruler announced that this route is expected to be inaugurated by the end of this year, further emphasizing Sharjah’s cooperative spirit with its neighbors.
Revitalizing the Cooperation Monument
The Sheikh addressed the temporary removal of the Cooperation Monument, emphasizing that it holds cherished memories for many. He stated, “The Cooperation Monument has beautiful memories that will remain, but necessity dictates that we temporarily remove it to complete important developmental projects.” The removal is essential for the construction of an underground tunnel designed to alleviate traffic on main thoroughfares. Engineers are currently designing the road to ensure that the monument can be safely repositioned after the project is completed.
Benefits of the New Projects
Sheikh Dr. Sultan further explained, “The advantages of these projects are manifold, primarily providing a vital corridor between Sharjah and Dubai that will ease vehicular movement on existing roads.” The development of Al Noor Road is a critical aspect of this initiative, which will facilitate smoother access to Dubai from the northern region. Additionally, the new tunnel under the Cooperation Monument aims to significantly reduce congestion, ensuring a more direct route to major roads such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road.
