Summary
The Sharjah Volunteer Award continues to enhance its programmes, fostering a culture of giving by establishing a new Board of Trustees led by Maryam Al Shamsi, amplifying its community impact.
The Sharjah Volunteer Award has reaffirmed its commitment to developing its initiatives to promote volunteerism and reinforce values of giving and social responsibility. This effort aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in supporting volunteer work and its contributions to society.
This commitment follows the recent decision by His Highness to form a new Board of Trustees for the award, with Maryam Majid Saeed Al Shamsi, a member of the Executive Council and Head of the Department of Social Services, appointed as chair.
Ongoing Support
Maryam Al Shamsi stated that the decision reflects continuous support for the award and illustrates the emirate’s dedication to advancing the framework of volunteer work while enhancing its impact within the community. She emphasised Sharjah’s longstanding commitment to establishing itself as a leader in this domain.
“We take pride in this trust, which grants us the responsibility of continuing the journey of the award and building on its achievements in promoting a culture of volunteerism and recognising the efforts of volunteers and initiative-makers,” Al Shamsi noted. She highlighted that this year, 46 winners were honoured during the 23rd cycle of the award, which recorded an impressive 448,987 volunteer hours contributed by 4,628 volunteers across 48 initiatives and projects, achieving economic savings exceeding 3.5 million dirhams.
Al Shamsi confirmed that the award will build upon past achievements and elevate its role in encouraging exemplary volunteer practices.
