As the rainy season approaches, the Municipality of Sharjah is preparing extensively to manage varying weather conditions efficiently. This initiative highlights the Municipality’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents during periods of heavy rainfall.
Comprehensive Emergency Preparedness
The Director General of the Municipality and Head of the Rain Emergency Committee, Obaid Saeed Al-Tuniji, announced that the Municipality has restructured the Rain Emergency Committee. This includes the addition of subcommittees and field tasks aimed at implementing comprehensive plans for emergencies and ensuring efficient operations.
According to Al-Tuniji, “The committee assumes overall supervision of all field operations to ensure prompt response and coordination among various departments and relevant entities. Continuous direct coordination with strategic partners is also a top priority.”
Operational Plans and Team Deployment
To enhance its readiness for the rainy season, the Municipality has deployed a dedicated team of engineers, supervisors, technicians, and supporting staff. This team is strategically distributed according to an operational plan that covers all areas of the city, ensuring effective responses to any weather-related challenges.
Al-Tuniji also emphasized that the Municipality has initiated a campaign focused on maintaining and clearing rainwater drainage outlets to prevent flooding. “Our contact center, reachable at the number 993, operates around the clock, providing immediate assistance for any emergent situations,” he added.
