Seizure of 3.5 Million Contraband Goods Shocks Authorities

The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has announced that its inspection campaigns, conducted in collaboration with the Dubai Police’s General Department of Criminal Investigation, resulted in the seizure of 3,587,315 non-compliant selective goods in the first half of 2026. This initiative led to 59 reports being filed against various individuals and establishments as part of ongoing efforts to enhance tax compliance and combat tax evasion, with total tax revenue and fines associated with the confiscated goods exceeding AED 82 million.

Collaboration and Results of Inspection Campaigns

A joint meeting took place at the FTA headquarters in Dubai, attended by FTA Director General Abdul Aziz Al Mulla, Executive Director of Tax Compliance Sector Sara Al Habshi, and Colonel Dr Saud Mohammed Al Khaldi, Assistant Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, along with other officials from both entities. Key outcomes from the inspection campaigns and the cooperative efforts were reviewed during the meeting, highlighting the performance indicators resulting from this collaboration in the first half of the year.

Continuing Efforts to Enhance Tax Compliance

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing cooperation in executing regulatory inspections and stepped-up efforts to detect non-compliant selective goods. They aim to ensure that tax registrants comply with tax legislation and procedures in their various transactions, thus improving overall tax compliance and enhancing the efficiency of supervision and inspection activities. This alliance seeks to leverage the capabilities and expertise of both parties to support the sustainability of the tax system in the UAE.

Strategic Partnerships and Technological Advancement

Abdul Aziz Al Mulla emphasized that the strategic partnership with Dubai Police is a cornerstone for enhancing the effectiveness of the tax regulatory framework. He commended the contributions of joint teams in carrying out inspection campaigns that yield results in combating tax evasion and apprehending violators, thereby supporting adherence to tax regulations and maintaining a competitive business environment within the country.

Community Engagement and Reporting Platform

Sara Al Habshi underscored that the FTA’s efforts to tackle tax evasion do not solely rely on the execution of inspection campaigns but also extend to fostering community partnerships through the “Raqib” platform. This platform allows all community members to report instances of tax evasion, empowering them to contribute to oversight efforts aimed at safeguarding markets and public funds from tax evasion practices.

Ongoing Monitoring and Compliance Push

Al Habshi added that the FTA is intensifying its oversight measures to ensure that all taxable entities adhere to tax legislation and procedures across their transactions, further solidifying the framework for compliance and regulation in the UAE.
