Rio de Janeiro Hosts Exciting Second Edition of Zayed Charity Race

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is set to host the second edition of the Zayed Charity Run, “Run for Aid,” on August 23. The event will take place at Flamengo Beach, featuring participation from thousands of professional athletes, amateur runners, and families from various nationalities, including 50 runners from the United Arab Emirates.

A Legacy of Generosity and Humanitarianism

The Zayed Charity Run was launched in 2001 by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, in honour of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who is remembered for his legacy of generosity and humanitarian commitment. This initiative has become a symbol of the values of kindness and brotherhood that Sheikh Zayed embodied, promoting these principles worldwide through the medium of sport.

Expanding Global Reach

Originating in Abu Dhabi, the Zayed Charity Run has achieved international recognition, successfully taking place in cities like New York, Cairo, Miami, Beijing, Addis Ababa, and Budapest. With its return to Brazil, Rio de Janeiro reinforces its position as a key stop on the run’s growing international agenda aimed at supporting humanitarian causes.

Incentives for Participants

The 2026 edition in Brazil will feature prize funds exceeding 500,000 Brazilian reais for winners across various categories, alongside special draws and other engaging activities. The initiative goes beyond merely celebrating athletic performance; it encourages the community to participate in a cause that transcends the finish line.

Supporting Cultural and Social Development

All registration fees will be directed to the Afro Reggae cultural group through a partnership with the Criança Esperança programme, aided by the support of the UAE Embassy in Brazil. This collaboration enhances the connection between the event organisers and one of Brazil’s most significant social initiatives.

The funds generated will help expand programmes focused on education, culture, and social integration, thereby improving opportunities for children, adolescents, and youth. A number of prominent UAE companies, including Abu Dhabi Heritage, Liwa, Emirates Airline, and Mubadala, are partnering in support of this initiative.

A Message of Unity and Giving

Lieutenant General (Retd) Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee of the Zayed Charity Run, expressed that the event serves as a lasting tribute to the humanitarian legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. His enduring principles of giving, compassion, and unity continue to inspire communities worldwide. Al Kaabi also conveyed pride in the return of the race to Brazil as a part of its ongoing international expansion, which aims to strengthen ties between people through sports and shared humanitarian goals.

He extended heartfelt thanks to partners and hosts for their invaluable support and contribution to the success of this noble initiative, which fosters a culture of giving, promotes healthy lifestyles, and continues Sheikh Zayed’s legacy of solidarity and humane action.
