Next Years Public School Enrollment Limited to Five Categories

The Ministry of Education has announced new admission regulations for public schools across the UAE for the academic year 2026-2027. These regulations aim to ensure fairness and equal opportunities among students while fostering a cohesive educational pathway from kindergarten to 12th grade. Notably, acceptance in public schools for the next year will be limited to five specific categories of students: UAE citizens, children of Emirati women, citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), children of diplomats, and those holding royal decrees. This selective approach emphasizes the importance of meeting specific criteria for each group and underscores the necessity of submitting valid official documents.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission

The Ministry clarified that the admission process for public schools will cater to five distinct student groups to maintain fairness in educational access. This encompasses UAE nationals, children of Emirati women, GCC citizens, children of diplomats, and holders of royal decrees. Each category has defined requirements, including the mandatory submission of valid documents such as the UAE identity card or diplomatic cards, depending on the circumstances. Importantly, students coming from unauthorized educational systems or outside designated living boundaries will not qualify for admission.

Application Procedures and Requirements

The registration mechanisms are clearly delineated, accounting for students entering education for the first time, as well as those transitioning from private schools within the country or from abroad. This structured approach aims to ensure equitable distribution of school seats and the educational stability of students, aligned with established policies and geographic regulations. According to the comprehensive student registration guide reviewed by ‘Emarat Al-Youm’, student admission will follow local residency geography, and documents such as foreign educational certificates must be authenticated and equivalently recognized by the relevant authorities. Some exceptions exist for certificates from public schools in GCC nations, adhering to specific rules.

Registration for Students of Determination

The Ministry has instituted specific measures for the registration of students with determination, commencing with online applications followed by diagnostic assessments at inclusive education centers. These assessments will determine the student’s eligibility for enrollment in public schools or kindergartens. Required documents for this group include recent medical and psychological reports, individualized educational plans, transition reports, and a disabilities card, if applicable. Notably, the results of these assessments will remain valid throughout the academic year, negating the need for re-registration.

Updated Age Requirements and Other Regulations

The guide also outlines essential updates concerning admission age for kindergarten and the first grade, establishing December 31 as the cutoff date for calculating age within the registration criteria. This policy will be implemented starting in the academic year 2026-2027. It facilitates the option for parents to register children born between September 1 and December 31, 2021, in either the first or second kindergarten year as they see fit. The registration process will also cover students transferring from schools, including those in advanced and technical tracks, thus ensuring educational continuity and the appropriate progression of academic stages.

As registration approaches, the Ministry warns that failing to enroll a child during the designated period may result in challenges such as the unavailability of a school seat within the student’s residential area. Furthermore, this delay could impede access to school transport services, placing the burden of sourcing educational materials on the parents. The guide concludes with contact avenues for parents, including school administration, the Ministry’s official website, customer service, and technical support facilities, ensuring they can readily obtain information and assistance during the registration phase.

The Ministry of Education continues to focus on optimizing the educational framework while enhancing learning outcomes for all students through systematic and transparent processes for the upcoming academic year, highlighted by the strict admission criteria emphasizing the five student categories.
