Emirates Green Building Standards for Energy and Water Launched

Dubai (Al-Ittihad) – The Emirates Green Building Council has announced the launch of the “Emirates Green Building Council Standard for Energy and Water” in collaboration with its independent partner, “Mi’yar”. This initiative aims to provide benchmark data for measuring energy and water performance across hotels, commercial centres, offices, and schools throughout the UAE.

Launching the Standard During Global Green Building Week

The introduction of this standard coincides with the Council’s participation in the 18th Global Green Building Week, taking place from September 7 to 11. This event gathers leaders from various sectors, innovators, policymakers, and students under the global campaign “#BuildItReady”. The primary goal is to facilitate the transformation of climate ambitions into practical applications within the built environment.

Focused Events and Initiatives

The programme features several events centred around key themes such as women’s leadership, youth empowerment, energy and water efficiency, and reducing carbon emissions associated with construction materials. It begins with the “Women in Sustainability: Building Readiness” event, which highlights the crucial role women play in leading sustainable project implementations in design, engineering, and construction.

Engaging the Next Generation of Designers

Additionally, the “Design for Practice: A Design Challenge for Students” session will be hosted at the American University in Dubai. This event will involve architecture students collaborating with experts to tackle real-world challenges related to urban design.

Concluding with a Focus on Low-Carbon Materials

The programme will conclude with a joint session hosted with Expo City Dubai, titled “Building with Minimal Carbon: The Evolution of Material Pathways in the UAE”. This session will present a practical framework for embedded carbon emissions to support and accelerate the adoption of low-carbon building materials within the country.
