The Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai has successfully completed a comprehensive project to enhance the signage throughout the Dubai Metro stations. This initiative involved replacing 9,000 guidance signs, a task undertaken in collaboration with Keolis-MHI, and has spanned an impressive 11,000 working hours. The main objective of this effort, entitled “طرق دبي,” is to improve visibility and increase the satisfaction of public transport users, thereby making daily commutes via the Dubai Metro and tram system more convenient.
Enhancements to Metro Signage
According to Hassan Al-Mutawa, Director of Train Operations at the Authority’s Rail Agency, this project is part of the organization’s broader strategy to enhance public transport services in Dubai. “This initiative focuses on studying and upgrading the guidance signs in metro stations,” he noted. The technical teams implemented a detailed plan to update and improve signs at all metro stations along the red and green lines. The primary aim was to facilitate smoother transport by helping passengers navigate the stations and reach their destinations more efficiently.
New Visuals for Better Navigation
The extensive project included updates to entry and exit signs, along with the installation of new signage at station entrances and exits. As part of this transformation, exit signboards have been highlighted in bright yellow squares for better visibility. Additionally, clear directional signs were installed on the platforms, complemented by floor stickers directing passengers to the correct train lines. This redesign significantly enhanced the flow of passenger movement throughout the stations.
Promoting Public Etiquette
Recognizing the importance of etiquette and public conduct among metro users, Al-Mutawa revealed that the initiative also involved distributing various behavioral messages through stickers that outline rules for proper conduct while using public transport and waiting areas. These are strategically placed throughout stations to encourage passengers to adhere to the guidelines, aiming to provide a more comfortable travel experience.
Special Considerations for Women and Children
To further ensure the comfort of female passengers and children, as well as those using the Gold Class service, the RTA has introduced prominent new signage. This includes the replacement of older floor signs with clear pink and gold indicators that read “Women and Children’s Cabins” and “Gold Class Cabin,” respectively. This effort is designed to enhance recognition and accessibility for these designated areas.
The Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai has also ensured that these updates reflect consistency across all visual and audio guidance systems. These enhancements are visible not only in the metro stations but also in smart systems, mobile applications, onboard announcements, and social media platforms. The initiative to replace 9,000 guidance signs as part of “طرق دبي” is set to significantly improve the overall experience for Dubai Metro users.
