Driver Fined 3000 Dirhams After Leaving Scene of Motorcycle Accident

A European driver in Dubai has been fined 3,000 dirhams after being found guilty of causing injuries to a motorcyclist and damaging the motorcycle due to neglect and failure to maintain a safe distance from the vehicles ahead. The incident escalated when the driver left the scene without stopping despite the fact that an injury had occurred.

Details of the Incident

The traffic incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Bur Dubai police station. The defendant was operating his vehicle without adequate attention, failing to leave a proper gap between his car and the vehicles in front. This resulted in his collision with a motorcycle being ridden by a young Emirati, leading to physical injuries for the cyclist as well as damage to the motorcycle.

Charges and Court Proceedings

According to court documents, the driver did not stop at the scene following the collision, despite having caused injury to the motorcyclist. The public prosecution charged him with the offences of causing bodily harm through negligence, damaging property belonging to another, and leaving the accident scene without a valid excuse.

Evidence and Ruling

Inspection reports, road accident records, and a diagram of the incident clearly established the defendant’s responsibility for the crash due to his driving error and failure to maintain a safe distance. The court also considered the driver’s own acknowledgment of the charges against him, as well as the evidence presented in the investigation report, witness diagrams of the accident, and the medical report of the injured party.

Conclusion and Sentence

During the ongoing case, the defendant appeared in court and admitted to the charges. The court was satisfied with the evidence presented and subsequently found him guilty, imposing a fine as a penalty. Taking into account the circumstances of both the incident and the defendant, the court applied rules related to the connection between the offences and reduced the penalty accordingly.

The court ruled that the driver should pay a fine of 3,000 dirhams. Records of execution have confirmed that the fine has been settled, and he has been released by the traffic public prosecution office.
