Berlin has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to travellers and partners in the tourism sector from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. This commitment was highlighted by the participation of the Berlin tourism authority, visitBerlin, in the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in Dubai. The German capital’s tourism sector hopes that Emirates Airlines will eventually add Berlin to its global destination network.
Strengthening Ties with the Gulf Region
According to a statement released yesterday, visitBerlin has maintained a strong presence in the GCC region for many years. The agency has collaborated closely with travel companies, airlines, media, and various partners in the area to enhance Berlin’s position as a premier urban tourism destination in Europe.
Significance of the GCC Market
The participation of visitBerlin in the ATM reflects the importance that the German capital places on the GCC as a vital long-term tourism market. Over the years, travellers from the Gulf countries have shown a particular interest in Berlin’s unique blend of culture, modern lifestyle, shopping, family experiences, and medical services. The city also boasts a broad array of high-end hotels and serviced apartments.
The Role of Air Connectivity
visitBerlin has stressed that strong air connectivity is fundamental to strengthening tourism and economic relations between Berlin and the GCC nations. The agency expressed aspirations for increased direct flights between the Gulf and the German capital in the coming years. Specifically, the tourism sector in Berlin hopes to see Emirates Airlines add a direct link between Dubai and Berlin in the future.
Commitment to Long-Term Relationships
Ralph Ostendorf, Head of Markets and Media Relations for the Middle East at visitBerlin, stated, “The Gulf region has been an important market for Berlin for many years. Our participation in the Arabian Travel Market sends a clear message that we are committed to the region and our partners across the GCC. Long-term relationships are particularly valuable in the tourism sector, and we want travellers and our partners in the Gulf to know that Berlin appreciates the significance of this market.”
Ostendorf added, “Strong air links are a crucial element for developing tourism traffic between Berlin and the Gulf region. Every additional flight route makes it easier for travellers from the area to reach Berlin. Certainly, we would be pleased to see more direct flights in the future, and we hope that one day Emirates will connect Dubai and Berlin directly.”
Ostendorf concluded, “Our commitment to the Gulf region is not tied to a single season or one trade show. We view the GCC countries as a long-term partner for Berlin and will continue to invest in these relationships, working closely with our partners in the region. We ensure that Berlin maintains its presence and status as an important and attractive destination for travellers from the Gulf.”
