The Municipality of Al Ain has taken significant strides to enhance road safety by introducing a robust system featuring 274 electronic gates designed to prevent camels and stray animals from accessing main and external roads. This initiative underscores the city’s commitment to ensuring safe travel for all road users.
Comprehensive Coverage of Key Routes
This innovative road protection system encompasses several major routes in Al Ain, particularly in the northern and southern sectors of the city. Notable roads impacted include the Thani bin Mohammed Al Nahyan Road, Al Ain Road, and Al Taf Road, among others, which are known for their proximity to livestock areas.
Integrated Safety Measures
According to Engineer Ahmed Al Nuaimi, head of the Roads and Pavements Maintenance Department at the Municipality of Al Ain, this comprehensive system not only includes electronic gates but also features road safety fencing and animal crossing barriers. These components work in unison to effectively mitigate the risk of stray animals entering the roads while preserving designated crossing points for farms and service paths.
Solar-Powered Technology and Ongoing Maintenance
The electronic gates are powered by solar energy and are subject to continuous monitoring and maintenance to ensure their operational readiness. The maintenance teams conduct regular field inspections of the fencing and animal crossing barriers, promptly addressing any issues or damages observed.
24/7 Monitoring and Response
Dedicated teams carry out round-the-clock patrols to oversee the condition of the fencing and gates, track stray animals, and guide them back to safe areas behind the barriers. They also ensure that any damaged sites are secured and that appropriate measures are implemented to rectify malfunctions until the gates are restored to service.
