Mawani Abu Dhabi is expanding its operations in Angola through strategic agreements aimed at developing an integrated digital platform for trade and logistics services. This initiative marks a significant step in the company’s effort to enhance its logistics capabilities in Angola and strengthen partnerships with local authorities and private entities.
Strategic Agreements with Key Stakeholders
Recently, the Abu Dhabi Ports Group announced the signing of an agreement to develop a unified digital window for trade and logistics solutions in collaboration with Angola’s logistics and shipping regulatory authority (Arkla). Additionally, the group will support its logistics operations in Angola through “Natom Unicar Gaz Logistics Services.” Five preliminary agreements have been established with both governmental and private entities in Angola to explore opportunities for collaboration in maritime services, training, logistics, air freight handling, and healthcare.
Investment Commitments and Market Impact
This initiative aligns with the ongoing expansion of the Abu Dhabi Ports Group’s activities in Angola, with prior announcements indicating a commitment to allocate investments of up to $250 million by 2026. This investment is dedicated to the redevelopment and expansion of Natom Ports – Luanda Terminal, which is a multipurpose facility within one of the largest ports in Angola. Just six months after initiating operations in Angola, this development is positioned to enhance trade efficiency and infrastructure in the capital, Luanda.
Enhanced Logistics and Infrastructure Development
Ricardo Vegas de Abreu, the Angolan Minister of Transport, expressed optimism regarding these developments, stating, “We welcome this opportunity to strengthen our fruitful relationship with the Abu Dhabi Ports Group, a pivotal investor in Angola and a strategic partner in our national growth journey. By modernizing and upgrading our maritime and commercial infrastructure, Abu Dhabi Ports Group and the Angolan Ministry of Transport will contribute to bolstering trade in the region and establishing Angola as a key driver of economic and social development.”
Technological Advancements in Logistics
Captain Mohammed Juma Al Shamsi, the Executive Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, emphasized that the signing of these agreements is part of their contribution towards transforming Luanda into a central hub for trade in West Africa. With the acquisition of a new fleet of trucks and the development of a unified digital trade and logistics window in Angola, the group aims to implement quality projects that will foster sustainable economic growth and prosperity for the Angolan community. The digital platform being developed in partnership with Arkla will facilitate trade operations and streamline customs processes, enhancing Angola’s status as an emerging commercial center in Central West Africa.
Through these strategic advancements, Abu Dhabi Ports Group is reinforcing its commitment to operational excellence and collaboration within Angola, setting the stage for a flourishing logistical landscape.
