The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has announced the commencement of traffic improvement works at the Nad Al Hamar intersection, aimed at facilitating traffic flow and meeting the needs of local residents. These enhancements, which include the construction of a new 850-meter lane, are expected to improve transportation efficiency in the area. Through this project, the RTA hopes to reduce traffic congestion and increase the smoothness of movement, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the road network in Dubai.
Details of the New Project
The RTA has begun implementing a new vehicle lane for those coming from Ras Al Khor Street towards the Nad Al Hamar intersection near the Nasser bin Loutah Mosque. The new lane extends for 850 meters and also includes the expansion of the storage lane at the intersection for vehicles coming from Al Rabat Street turning left towards the Nad Al Hamar area.
Importance of Traffic Improvements
This initiative is part of the RTA’s efforts to meet the needs and aspirations of residents, representing ongoing efforts to develop the road network along vital corridors. These improvements are expected to alleviate pressure on traffic coming from Ras Al Khor and Al Rabat Streets towards the Nad Al Hamar intersection, thereby improving travel times.
Impact of the Project on Traffic Flow
The new lane towards the Nad Al Hamar intersection will increase the capacity for vehicles from 4,800 to 6,400 vehicles per hour, representing a 33% increase. This translates to a reduction in travel time from 15 minutes to 11 minutes, contributing to an increase in traffic flow by up to 27%, especially during evening peak hours.
Serving Neighboring Areas
The new expansion targets vehicles heading to Nad Al Hamar and the surrounding areas, such as Al Rashidiya, Al Qusais, and Dubai International Airport. By enhancing connectivity between residential neighborhoods and vital facilities, this project supports the efficiency of traffic on both major and internal road networks, ultimately improving the quality of life for residents.
