DEWA Launches 924 Distribution Stations at 11 kV in the First Half
In a new achievement that reflects the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) commitment to enhancing the electrical infrastructure of the emirate, Managing Director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer announced the launch of 924 distribution stations at 11 kV during the first half of 2025. This number represents a significant increase compared to the same period last year, when the authority inaugurated 558 distribution stations. This development underscores DEWA’s dedication to meeting the increasing demand for energy amid urban and population growth in Dubai.
Significant Increase in Station Launches
During his remarks, Al Tayer highlighted the importance of the recent launch of the stations, noting that 924 distribution stations at 11 kV were distributed across the emirate. This figure represents a 66% increase over the numbers recorded last year, showcasing the authority’s efforts to enhance the readiness of the electrical infrastructure.
Authority’s Commitment to Infrastructure
Al Tayer described this investment as a crucial element in achieving comprehensive economic growth, pointing out that DEWA continues to work on building advanced infrastructure that aligns with Dubai’s future plans, such as the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai Urban Plan 2040. He emphasized, “We are committed to enhancing the pioneering model established by the authority, focusing on innovation and modern technology.”
Outstanding Global Performance
In terms of performance, Al Tayer reported that DEWA ranked first globally in 12 key performance indicators. He also noted the significant reduction in the loss rate in the transmission and distribution networks, with the authority achieving the world’s lowest rate of 2%, compared to approximately 6-7% in many European countries and the United States.
Current Number of Stations
Engineer Rashid bin Hamidan, Executive Vice President of the Power Distribution Sector, confirmed that the total number of medium-voltage distribution stations (33 kV) serving DEWA is 62 stations, while the number of medium-voltage distribution stations (11 kV and 6.6 kV) reaches 64,084 stations. These figures reflect the ongoing expansion of the energy distribution network in Dubai.
