The issue of climate change and the environment has become increasingly central to global discussions, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable practices. Recently, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment celebrated the successful conclusion of the inaugural edition of the “Mustain” program. This initiative was designed to empower Emirati youth in the fields of environmental science, agriculture, and sustainability, aligning perfectly with the nation’s broader vision for a sustainable future.
Successfully wrapping up its first edition, the “Mustain” program reflects the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment’s commitment to fostering a new generation of environmentally-conscious leaders. Organized in the spirit of the “Year of Community,” this program aimed to enhance the capabilities of Emirati youth in sectors crucial to the environment and sustainable development.
The program was executed in collaboration with “Salah” Company in Al Ain and the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) in Dubai. It focused on equipping participants with essential skills such as research, analysis, and teamwork, which are vital for their future employability in a rapidly changing job market driven by climate change and environmental needs.
Mohammed Saeed Al Naimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, shared insights on the significance of the program. He stated, “The success of the program confirms the leadership’s vision for investing in its youthful resources. The participants of ‘Mustain’ symbolize the cornerstone of the national human capital that will underpin the future of the green economy and sustainable food security.” This perspective emphasizes the critical role that youth will play in addressing climate change and environmental issues in the UAE.
Additionally, Al Naimi noted that the “Mustain” program goes beyond imparting knowledge. Its primary aim is to cultivate an innovative mindset among participants, empowering them to develop sustainable solutions to environmental challenges. He reaffirmed the commitment to continue preparing this youth generation to lead the transition to a low-carbon economy, positioning them as ambassadors of sustainability within their communities.
The collaboration with “Salah” and ICBA represents a unified national effort to meet climate goals and future aspirations. Al Naimi emphasized that the program will continue to nurture innovative minds focused on building a better future for the UAE through upcoming editions that will delve deeper into sustainability foundations. This ongoing commitment signifies a proactive approach to addressing climate change and the environment, demonstrating the UAE’s determination to take significant strides toward a sustainable future.
