The International Forum for Government Communication 2025 is set to address contemporary challenges with 22 proposals aimed at enhancing quality of life. Scheduled for September 10 and 11 in Sharjah, this year’s event revolves around the theme “Communication for Quality of Life,” featuring over 22 interactive platforms at the Sharjah Expo Center. The forum serves as a global intellectual platform that explores the future relationship between governments and communities through the lens of communication while centering community needs in public strategies.
Expanding the Role of Communication
This year, organized by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, the forum presents a comprehensive vision for expanding the role of communication as a crucial tool in addressing food security, public health, education, environmental sustainability, and the green economy—all interconnected through the core theme of quality of life.
Food security is highlighted as a cornerstone for social and economic stability, showcasing how government communication can foster sustainable food awareness and encourage the adoption of modern agricultural systems and technologies that optimize resource use while preserving biodiversity. Reports from the United Nations project that over 670 million people may face malnutrition by 2030, with around 258 million currently suffering from severe food insecurity. These alarming figures underline the need for effective communication strategies that link community awareness with governmental decisions to transform messages into meaningful change.
Transforming Crises into Opportunities
The forum also addresses the role of communication in turning health crises into opportunities for building more aware and responsive communities. Through targeted strategies and communication campaigns, the forum seeks to mitigate the impacts of food insecurity and address economic and social gaps, particularly in light of revelations from the World Health Organization that 45% of deaths among children under five are linked to malnutrition.
Aliyah Al Suwaidi, Director of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, emphasizes that this year’s forum continues its mission to embed communication as an essential element in strategy engineering and positive change leadership. She notes that communication plays a vital role in enhancing community involvement and building relationships between government and the public based on transparency, trust, and empowerment.
Education as a Pathway to Solutions
The forum places a strong emphasis on education as a long-term communication tool to empower future generations. It showcases models for developing curricula that connect to future skills such as sustainable agriculture and modern technology, thus enabling youth to provide practical solutions to agricultural and climatic challenges, contributing to long-term food security.
Furthermore, discussions will revolve around the role of government communication in reshaping urban behavior and living patterns in future cities. Awareness campaigns will focus on concepts like waste reduction, recycling, and living in an environmentally responsible manner. With humanity discarding approximately 1.3 billion tons of food annually—equating to 31% of global production—while millions suffer from hunger, the importance of building governmental narratives that enact behavioral change rather than merely disseminating information is starkly evident.
The Power of Government Narratives
The forum introduces the concept of government narrative as a prominent tool for delivering information and fostering new awareness that strengthens the relationship between governments and the public through participatory institutional storytelling. It proposes an effective government narrative that transcends mere promotion of policies and evolves into a responsive communication approach that reflects citizens’ needs in relatable, human language. In doing so, it translates environmental or food-related challenges into realities that individuals can comprehend and connect with.
This narrative approach serves as a persuasive tool for addressing food waste and climate change, acting as an emotional and social catalyst that fosters a transformation in concepts and habits.
Green Economy and Future Language
Additionally, the forum will delve into the role of the green economy in food sustainability and quality of life, highlighting the opportunities provided by governmental policies and partnerships with the private sector to adopt agricultural practices and technologies that could reduce carbon emissions by up to 30% by 2050.
United Nations studies reveal that for every dollar invested in sustainable agriculture, the economic and social benefits can be 2.5 times more substantial, while the green economy could create over 24 million jobs globally by 2030. The integration of these themes reflects the overarching goal of the forum: to craft a future enriched by strategic communication aimed at enhancing the quality of life.
