Technical and vocational education in Sharjah focuses on providing education that aligns with the labor market and enhances students’ skills, increasing their chances of securing suitable jobs in various fields.

Establishment of Technical and Vocational Education Institutions

Sharjah is making significant strides through the establishment of numerous technical and vocational education institutions. Notable centers such as the Continuing Education and Professional Development Center at the University of Sharjah, the Continuing Education and Development Center at Al Qasimia University, and the Sharjah Training and Development Center offer professional and technical programs in fields such as media, management, technology, and artificial intelligence. These institutions help prepare students by providing the necessary diplomas that enhance their opportunities in the job market.

Additionally, there are other distinguished educational programs focused on working with individuals with special needs, using sign language, and website design, reflecting the diversity of technical and vocational education in Sharjah. These programs address various practical skills that enhance students’ readiness for the job market and their ability to face professional challenges.

Workshops and Seminars to Promote Technical and Vocational Education

Sharjah organizes workshops and panel discussions to highlight the importance of developing technical and vocational education. These events focus on skill development and innovation, contributing to enhancing students’ competitiveness. Among the most notable events is the Sharjah International Education Development Summit, overseen by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, which addresses technical and vocational education as a fundamental element of modern education systems.

These sessions discuss the foundations linking technical and vocational education to economic development, as they contribute to meeting the labor market’s needs in an era of rapid technological transformation.

Recommendations for Developing Technical and Vocational Education

The Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates has recommended establishing more technical and vocational education institutions across all emirates, including Sharjah. The recommendations emphasize the importance of adopting a system of grants and incentives to encourage students to enroll in this type of education. Strategies for financing the development of vocational education were also discussed to ensure that curricula align with modern technological advancements.

The National Qualification Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education, is a key player in developing policies related to technical and vocational education. The center undertakes multiple responsibilities, including managing and implementing projects that support the enhancement of technical and vocational education in Sharjah, thereby contributing to raising students’ professional competence and improving their future employment opportunities.
