In a significant move to enhance public parking services and operational efficiency, the Dubai Municipality has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Parkin, the largest provider of marked public parking facilities in the emirate. This collaboration aims to improve the overall quality of service offered to the community in Dubai while establishing an optimal regulatory, legislative, and technical environment for public parking services.
Objectives of the Agreement
The MoU outlines a cooperative framework between the two entities, focusing on several key areas. These include the development of standards for designated parking areas, streamlining the issuance of permits and regulatory approvals for operational and experimental initiatives, and providing relevant planning data and geographic information related to parking. Moreover, it emphasizes the exchange of expertise to create regulations for the use of private land as parking, ultimately enhancing service quality.
Investment and Operational Opportunities
The agreement also seeks to explore investment opportunities in the establishment and operation of multi-story buildings and parking facilities. As part of this cooperation, both parties will evaluate the feasibility of operating existing designated parking spaces managed by the municipality. Future collaborations may include managing event parking by providing traffic management services, vehicle parking arrangements, and on-site supervisors, as well as automated payment solutions for vehicles at facility entrances and exits.
A Comprehensive Infrastructure
Badr Anouhi, Executive Director of the Public Facilities Department at Dubai Municipality, remarked, “This MoU is part of Dubai Municipality’s efforts to develop a comprehensive infrastructure for its public parking services in line with Dubai’s aspirations for a smart and sustainable future.” He further elaborated that this collaboration is aimed at facilitating operational procedures while enhancing service quality for visitors of Dubai Municipality facilities, aligning with the emirate’s strategic goals in sustainability and comprehensive urban planning that contribute to improving quality of life.
A Commitment to a Sustainable Future
Mohammad Abdullah Al Ali, CEO of Parkin, stated, “This collaboration with Dubai Municipality reflects Parkin’s commitment to supporting the emirate’s goals for a smarter and more sustainable future.” He emphasized that by leveraging their extensive experience in managing and operating public parking, they are integrating with the strategic vision of the municipality to develop a robust infrastructure that enhances urban mobility efficiency and supports the targets of the Dubai Urban Plan 2040.
