Dr. Muhtadha Yahya Al Hashimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Private Education Authority and Head of the Sharjah Academy for Education, recently articulated the significance of Flag Day in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). She emphasised that this occasion embodies the unity of the nation and the solidarity between its leadership and its citizens. It serves as a reminder of the pride, loyalty, and belonging that stems from a nation built on the foundations laid by the Founding Fathers, with a continuous commitment to progress and prosperity from its wise leadership.
In her remarks, Dr. Al Hashimi stated, “When we raise the UAE flag, we recall a journey where the individual is the focus of development, and knowledge and education are the pillars of our advancement. We renew our pledge to protect its accomplishments and contribute to building its future through hard work and dedication.” She highlighted the profound educational message of this occasion, urging communities to teach their children the values that the flag represents: unity, sovereignty, and solidarity, as well as the responsibility that comes with these ideals towards their homeland and society.
She concluded, “We believe that instilling national identity begins in the early years and flourishes in an educational environment that connects generations with their country’s history. It cultivates pride in its culture and values, equipping them with knowledge and the ability to contribute to its future. The role of the teacher is pivotal in instilling these concepts through their example and the learning experiences they provide, making a sense of belonging a daily practice reflected in diligence, cooperation, respect for others, and the preservation of the nation’s achievements.”
