The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai, in collaboration with the Dubai Police General Headquarters, has announced new speed limit updates set to take effect from November 1st. These changes involve an increase in speed limits on three main roads, alongside a reduction on two others, with adjustments applicable in both directions.
Enhanced Traffic Safety Measures
The decision to modify the maximum speed limits aligns with Dubai’s traffic safety strategy and the performance indicators outlined in the 2025 traffic safety evaluation plan. The RTA stated that the revisions were made in conjunction with the Dubai Police to enhance road safety.
Technical Assessments and Speed Management
Improvements to speed regulations are based on updated technical specifications contained in the Speed Management Guide issued in 2026. These modifications followed a comprehensive engineering study conducted with the assistance of an international consultant, aiming to facilitate smoother traffic flow and improve overall road safety standards. The adjustments are also intended to ensure that speed limits are appropriate for the road characteristics and traffic patterns.
Specific Changes to Speed Limits
As part of the new regulations, the maximum speed limits will be raised on three roads:
- Al Asail Street: Increased from 60 km/h to 80 km/h between Oud Metha Street and Al Maktoum Street.
- Future Street: Increased from 60 km/h to 70 km/h from Sheikh Rashid Road to Al Maktoum Street.
- Latifa Bint Hamdan Street: Increased from 60 km/h to 70 km/h between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.
Conversely, speed limits will decrease on two roads:
- Al Rabat Street: Reduced from 100 km/h to 90 km/h from Marrakech Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
- Sheikh Sabah bin Ahmad Al Sabah Street: Reduced from 80 km/h to 70 km/h between the Second of December Street and Khalid bin Al-Walid Street.
Ongoing Efficiency Reviews and Implementation
The RTA emphasised that the modifications adhere to established engineering standards outlined in the relevant technical guides concerning engineering design and speed management. By leveraging the Speed Management Guide in Dubai, the authority ensures that revisions are based on best global practices.
Future Preparations
The RTA will update the traffic signs indicating the new speed limits accordingly and will also reprogram speed radar systems on the affected roads to ensure readiness by November 1, 2026. These revisions form part of the RTA’s ongoing assessments of speed and operational efficiency on Dubai’s vital road networks, coinciding with various road development and improvement projects throughout the emirate.
