Abu Dhabi’s Heritage Authority is diligently preparing for the 20th edition of the Al Dhafra Festival, which will feature electronic collaring methods—known as “trassiz”—as well as the classification and dental assessment of camels from various native breeds. These assessments are crucial for owners of native, majahim, hybrid asal, and waddah camels ahead of participating in the festival’s competitions, scheduled to run from 27th October to 13th January.
Active Participation at Trassiz Stations
The trassiz station recently held at Al Rawda in Al Ain witnessed significant turnout from camel owners eager to complete their participation requirements. This station is one of several set up by the organising committee to facilitate the collaring, classification, and dental checks for participants hailing from across the UAE and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
Preparations Across Regions
The Al Ain station complements earlier trassiz efforts that commenced in Ghayathi and Zayed City, located in the Al Dhafra region. This initiative is part of the early organisational preparations for the festival, underscoring the committee’s commitment to assisting camel owners in meeting participation deadlines.
Final Stages and Locations
Trassiz, classification, and dental evaluations will continue at the Razeen station in Abu Dhabi until 30th October, with the final assessment set to conclude at Al Sowaihan in Al Ain from 10th to 14th October. This will mark the fifth and final station before the commencement of the competitions.
Importance of Trassiz in Camel Judging
Hamad Mohammed Al Shamsi, head of the judging committees for camel competitions at the Al Dhafra Festival, emphasised that the trassiz process is a fundamental step in the preparation for competitions. It plays a vital role in organising camel participation and verifying their details while streamlining the procedures for owners and breeders, ensuring that all requirements are fulfilled prior to the competition.
