Empowering Dubai’s Students: Crafting Career Paths for Citizens

The Ministry of Education and the Dubai Municipality have entered into a collaboration agreement aimed at enhancing the professional and technical pathways for Emirati students in public schools across Dubai. This initiative is designed to align educational outcomes with job market demands and broaden the horizons for students, opening up more opportunities for study and employment in professional and technical fields.

Comprehensive Educational Model

The agreement focuses on creating an integrated educational model beginning in Year 10. This model combines academic knowledge with vocational education and practical training, ultimately leading to students obtaining recognised vocational qualifications. Furthermore, the initiative provides a support system that extends beyond Year 12, enabling students to explore further education opportunities and career paths available at the Dubai Municipality upon fulfilling specific requirements.

Key Signatories and Statements

Signatories of the agreement included Amina Al Salih, Assistant Undersecretary for the Curriculum Sector representing the Ministry of Education, and Said Ismail Al Hashimi, Acting Executive Director of the Institutional Support Services Sector from the Municipality, in the presence of various officials from both entities.

Amina Al Salih emphasised in a recent press release that establishing an educational system capable of preparing generations equipped with practical skills, knowledge, and experience is crucial for enhancing the nation’s human capital. She highlighted that expanding educational and vocational options allows students to discover their abilities and inclinations early on, leading to more informed decisions regarding their academic and career futures. Al Salih also noted that the impact of the initiative goes beyond equipping students with specialised skills; it also fosters their ability to take on responsibilities, work in teams, tackle real-world challenges, and confidently plan their future pathways.

Alignment with Job Market Needs

Said Ismail Al Hashimi affirmed that the cooperation agreement with the Ministry represents a comprehensive step towards creating specialised educational and training pathways for Emirati students, focusing on developing their skills and knowledge. The initiative aims to prepare students for job opportunities tailored to future market requirements while keeping pace with vital specialisations related to municipal work, ensuring they are well-equipped to actively contribute to comprehensive development and city enhancement. Notably, the Dubai Municipality is the first government entity to incorporate food safety education into the education sector.

Focus on Food Safety Education

This initiative marries vocational education with practical training, targeting Emirati students within the food safety specialisation. The programme aims to assess the possibility of expanding the number of students and broadening it to cover additional technical specialisations in the future, based on evaluation outcomes.

The student journey within the initiative takes a gradual approach, commencing in Year 10 and progressing towards obtaining recognised vocational qualifications, ultimately leading to opportunities for further study and employment following Year 12.
