Abu Dhabi Book Fair: A Global Hub for Knowledge and Culture

At the conclusion of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, His Excellency Mohammed Al-Murr, Chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, highlighted the event’s stature as a global platform for knowledge and culture. He noted the fair’s significant evolution since its inception, showcasing decades of continuous cultural efforts that have propelled it to become one of the leading literary and cultural exhibitions, offering a rich array of content in knowledge, science, and the arts.

A Landmark Development in Cultural Exchange

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al-Murr expressed his longstanding connection to the fair, reflecting on its growth over multiple decades. He remarked on the current state of the exhibition with a sense of joy, attributing its success to the wise leadership and the tireless work of generations dedicated to cultural affairs.

A Premier Venue for a Distinct Experience

He emphasised the importance of selecting the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) as the fair’s host venue, which he stated significantly contributed to creating a unique environment for the event. The layout of the exhibition and the distribution of its various pavilions enabled publishers to showcase their offerings effectively, enhancing the ease of movement between the different sections.

Cultural Programming and International Participation

Al-Murr also praised the well-organised and thoughtfully planned cultural programme accompanying the fair. He noted that the participating guests from the UAE, the Gulf region, the Arab world, and more broadly, represent a distinguished array of literary, cultural, and scientific talents.

Providing Intellectual Riches to the Audience

The exhibition programme has been designed to offer attendees treasures of knowledge and art, with Al-Murr expressing his commitment to attending and supporting the fair’s activities and events since its launch. He underscored the fair’s role in enriching the cultural landscape and nurturing a love for literature among the audience.

Honouring Icons of Emirati Culture

Speaking of the “Emirati Icons” initiative introduced at this year’s fair, aimed at documenting the pioneering experiences of cultural and intellectual symbols in the UAE, Al-Murr conveyed his admiration for the project. He emphasised its significance in establishing a prominent cultural, civilisational, and national tradition.

A Legacy for Future Generations

He concluded by asserting that successive generations of Emirati culture deserve recognition and that their experiences should be shared with the public. This sharing not only allows future generations to benefit from these rich legacies but also encourages them to take these figures as role models in various fields, including literature, culture, thought, science, and the arts.
