Dubai has initiated a significant project aimed at enhancing its road infrastructure and improving logistics and transport services across the emirate. The ambitious project, stretching approximately 80 kilometres from the entrance of Abu Dhabi to the entrance of Sharjah, is expected to cost around 3.5 billion AED for its first phase, as reported by the Dubai Government Media Office.
Key Features of the New Corridor
The project will feature a road comprising 12 lanes in each direction, alongside 72 bridges, 17 tunnels, and 45 drainage systems to manage rainfall effectively. These developments are projected to reduce travel time by up to 60%. With a capacity to accommodate 24,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, the new corridor is set to serve over 3.1 million residents.
Strategic Integration with Major Transport Hubs
Furthermore, the initiative is designed to strengthen the logistics and commercial transport sectors, working in tandem with Al Maktoum International Airport and the Etihad Rail project. This integration is expected to streamline connectivity and facilitate seamless movement of goods and passengers throughout the region.
Transforming the Future of Mobility
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai indicated that this strategic corridor would “shorten distances and redefine the future of mobility” within the country. As Dubai continues to invest in its transport infrastructure, the new project reflects the emirate’s commitment to fostering economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
