The majestic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi will introduce an entrance fee for visitors starting September 1, 2026. This new measure aims to enhance the experience at one of the world’s largest mosques, reflecting its significance as both a spiritual and cultural landmark.
Entrance Fees and Visitor Categories
Admission costs vary depending on the visitor’s residency status. Tourists from outside the UAE will be charged Dhs10, while holders of an Emirates ID will enjoy a reduced rate of Dhs5. For those visiting in groups through a tour operator, the fee is Dhs8. Official delegations will have fees determined by their respective organisations.
Visiting Hours
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque welcomes guests from 9am to 8:30pm, Saturday through Thursday. On Fridays, the mosque opens for two visiting sessions: from 9am to 11:30am and resuming from 2:30pm to 8:30pm. Additionally, Sura Night Tours are available daily from 9pm to 9am, providing a unique opportunity to experience the mosque under the night sky. Tickets can be conveniently purchased online via the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque’s official website or at the on-site ticket counter.
Exemptions and Special Considerations
Visitation to the mosque for worship purposes remains free of charge. Seniors aged 60 and above can also enter without an admission ticket, ensuring accessibility for this demographic.
Dress Code Requirements
All visitors are expected to adhere to a strict dress code that reflects the mosque’s cultural significance. Attire should cover the shoulders and knees, with loose-fitting, non-transparent clothing preferred. Women are required to cover their hair when entering the mosque. Notably, the mosque no longer provides abayas for those not attired appropriately; however, visitors can purchase an abaya for Dhs45 at Souq Al Jami, located adjacent to the mosque.
Exploring Cultural Offerings
In addition to the breathtaking architecture, visitors can enrich their experience with special programmes such as the Light & Peace Museum and Diya, an immersive 360-degree experience, both priced at Dhs25 each. A combined ticket for both experiences is available for Dhs40, offering insight into the mosque’s spiritual and historical significance.
Must-See Features
The iconic mosque features 82 domes, four minarets, and stunning white marble façades that reflect in the surrounding pools, creating one of its most photographed views, especially during sunset when the lighting transforms the atmosphere. Visitors should also take note of the mosque’s world-record-holding hand-knotted carpet in the main prayer hall, available for an additional Dhs30 to view.
As you prepare for your visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, keeping these details in mind will help ensure an enriching and memorable experience at this architectural marvel.
