Advanced Care and Inspiring Stories in the Fight Against Cancer

As the battle against cancer continues to challenge many, the stories of survivors in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) echo hope, resilience, and the power of medical advancement. What began as daunting experiences filled with fear and uncertainty have transformed into narratives of victory and triumph, showcasing that cancer is not the end of the road, but rather a testament to the strength of the human spirit, bolstered by strong familial support and cutting-edge medical care.

In an enlightening discussion with healthcare professionals, it was revealed that the UAE has made remarkable strides in both cancer diagnosis and treatment. Continuous investment in modern medical technologies, early detection programs, and the provision of the latest medications have significantly improved recovery rates and the quality of life for patients.

Emboldened by Hope

Dr. Sidra Al Mansouri, a member of the Federal National Council and an expert in family medicine, stated, “Despite the challenges posed by cancer, the journey can culminate in triumph. The advancements in medicine provide inspiring success stories, where survivors become ambassadors of hope, encouraging others to prioritise early detection and not succumb to fear.”

She noted the UAE’s impressive expansion of cancer treatment facilities, which has grown from a single centre in Al Ain in 1979 to 30 specialized clinics today. National programs designed for early detection and public health awareness have played pivotal roles in improving treatment outcomes.

The Possibility of Recovery

Sheikh Dr. Salem bin Rakkad Al Amarri, the former president of the UAE Cancer Society, highlighted that cancer is no longer viewed in the same light as it was decades ago. “Today, many cases are treatable, and quick decisions following diagnoses, paired with strict adherence to medical advice, significantly enhance treatment success rates,” he remarked.

He elaborated on the crucial role of psychological factors in recovery, pointing out that positive morale and support from family and friends are vital components that can greatly influence healing, in tandem with specialized medical attention.

Impressive Recovery Rates

Professor Hamid bin Harmal Al Shamsi, Chair of the UAE Oncology Society, underscored that the UAE boasts among the highest recovery rates globally. Studies indicate that recovery statistics in the UAE are comparable to those in the United States and Canada and rank among the best in the Gulf region.

“Most cancer cases can lead to complete recovery, especially when detected early, with success rates exceeding 95%,” he affirmed, emphasising the importance of proactive health screenings.

In a heartfelt sharing, cancer survivor Mohammed Salem Al Mazrouei reflected on his journey, “Initially, I faced many challenges. However, faith and determination motivated me to persevere. I found that the advanced healthcare system in the UAE, with its best-in-class treatments and skilled medical professionals, facilitated my recovery.”

The Chemotherapy Experience

Jawareh Al Marzouqi shared her experience with chemotherapy, describing the struggle she endured post-treatment. “I tried to maintain a strong facade as my family’s emotional anchor. Every ounce of optimism I held enabled me to cope. I recognized that a positive attitude significantly affected my recovery experience,” she recounted.

She sought opinions abroad for her condition but ultimately returned to the UAE due to the high quality of care and advanced medical technologies available.

Advanced Medical Technologies

Zayed Mohammed Al Zaabi explained that after initially considering treatments overseas, he realised that the UAE was on par, if not better, than international standards. “While I initially found it challenging to accept a cancer diagnosis, the unwavering support from my family and excellent care from healthcare providers made my treatment process seamless,” he noted.

A Journey of Transformation

Atiqah Al Alimi Rouina began her journey with cancer when a lump in her breast was detected in July 2024. “Initially, fear gripped me, but I believed that with every ailment comes a cure. My children were my biggest support throughout this battle,” she shared.

Atiqah saw positive results following her third round of chemotherapy and underwent surgery in January 2025. “I had unwavering faith in the advanced healthcare in the UAE and never considered seeking treatment abroad, despite having children in Germany,” she stated confidently. “My message to everyone is to hold onto hope and resilience; after every trial comes strength and relief.”
