Empowering UAE Talent for Responsible AI Innovation

As part of the UAE Experts Programme, 32 Emirati specialists have successfully completed the second training module focusing on artificial intelligence (AI). This unit emphasised how to convert AI capabilities into practical impacts and measurable value within various institutions and sectors.

Key Objectives of the Training Module

The second module achieved four primary objectives. It began by identifying pertinent use cases for AI across relevant sectors. Participants gained insights into the costs associated with developing and operating AI solutions, along with methods for measuring return on investment. Furthermore, it underscored the application of governance principles and responsible AI practices in the UAE, as well as the integration of technical, economic, and ethical considerations in complex AI decision-making.

From Theory to Practical Application

Titled “From AI Toolkits to AI Returns,” this module expanded upon the technical foundations laid in the first unit, which took place in July. It shifted the focus from merely understanding how AI operates to exploring the decisions that shape its deployment, governance frameworks, and its ability to deliver tangible benefits. This training enabled AI pathway experts to engage directly with leading UAE institutions and decision-makers helping to shape the nation’s AI landscape, including the Office of the Prime Minister, the Cyber Security Council of the UAE Government, the Government Empowerment Department in Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Statistics Centre, and Mohammed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence, as well as the “Tam” platform.

Rich Learning Experience

The second module combined deep academic training with hands-on learning, providing participants with direct interactions with pioneering organisations and experts while applying AI in real-world contexts. These interactions allowed the experts to observe how AI is implemented on a broad scale and how governance, accountability, risk management, and ethical considerations are integrated from the early stages of deployment.

Understanding Regulatory Requirements

Participants also acquainted themselves with the regulatory framework in the UAE, data governance protocols, and the importance of developing responsible AI applications that earn community trust and align with national priorities.

Insights from Participants

One of the AI pathway experts representing the responsible expansion of startups in the AI domain, Saleh Al Obaidli, remarked that one of the key takeaways from the second training module is that responsible AI practices must begin long before implementation. He encouraged institutions to incorporate governance, accountability, and risk assessment throughout all stages of AI initiatives.
