A driver in Dubai has been fined 2,000 AED for operating a vehicle without a valid driving licence, after causing a collision while reversing without due caution. The court imposed a fine of 1,000 AED for each of the two charges: driving without a licence and damaging others’ property.
Details of the Incident
According to court documents, the defendant was found driving a vehicle in the Al Barsha area without possessing a valid licence authorising him to operate that type of vehicle. While reversing, he failed to pay attention to his surroundings and did not exercise the necessary caution, resulting in a collision with another vehicle. Fortunately, the incident did not lead to any personal injuries, but both vehicles sustained material damage.
Court Findings
The court stated that the driver’s responsibility was established based on the police report, the road accident report, and the incident diagram. These documents confirmed that the crash was attributable to the driver’s error while reversing, as well as his operation of the vehicle without a valid licence.
Admission of Guilt
During police proceedings, the defendant acknowledged his wrongdoing, and this confession was consistent with the physical evidence collected. The court noted that the evidence was comprehensive and corroborated, reinforcing the view of the driver’s liability for not only causing damage to someone else’s property but also for driving without a valid licence.
Punishment Imposed
After reviewing the evidence, the court found sufficient grounds to support the two charges against the driver, leading to a guilty verdict in his absence. However, considering the circumstances of the case, the court exercised leniency in its sentencing, concluding with a total fine of 2,000 AED—1,000 AED for the property damage and 1,000 AED for driving without a valid licence.
