Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Dubai has announced the launch of a new Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering programme, set to begin in the Fall of 2026. This innovative programme aims to equip graduates for careers in emerging technologies, meeting the growing demand for skilled engineers in various sectors.
Programme Overview
The Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering is designed to prepare students for roles in fields such as artificial intelligence, aerospace, networks, secure systems, semiconductors, electronics, cloud computing, smart systems, the government sector, and software development. Students will have the opportunity to specialise in two key areas: Artificial Intelligence or Secure Systems.
Curriculum and Accreditation
This interdisciplinary programme has been developed in response to the increasing need for engineers who can effectively integrate hardware and software to create intelligent and connected systems. It combines elements of hardware engineering, software development, artificial intelligence, and embedded systems.
Accredited by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in the UAE, the curriculum is based on the Computer Engineering programme at the main RIT campus in New York. It incorporates core engineering principles, general education, technical specialisations, and experiential learning.
Core Courses and Practical Experience
The coursework includes subjects such as mathematics, science, engineering, data structures, object-oriented programming, circuits and electronics, and software engineering. Advanced topics cover computer engineering, digital systems design, interfacing hardware and software, computer networks, and digital signal processing.
The programme spans four years, complemented by an integrated cooperative education year, where students gain practical experience in industrial settings following their sophomore and junior years. Collaborations with industry leaders such as Siemens, Amazon Web Services, Nokia, and Intel offer students opportunities for internships in automation, smart systems, cloud computing, communications, and semiconductors.
Capstone Project and Global Opportunities
Students will conclude their study with a multidisciplinary capstone project that addresses real-world challenges posited by industry or academia. Dr. Mohieddin Amer, Dean of the College of Engineering and Computing at RIT Dubai, emphasised that the Computer Engineering programme sits at the intersection of hardware, software, and artificial intelligence. He noted that this programme allows students to deepen their expertise in AI systems and secure systems, preparing them to design secure, efficient, and high-performing systems.
Global Certification and Experience
Undergraduates will study in the UAE while earning an American degree from the main RIT campus in New York. Additionally, they will have opportunities to explore global study experiences across RIT’s international campuses.
For those interested, registration for the programme will be open in Fall 2026.
