Trade Resilience Amid Regional Disruptions

DB World has successfully transported 500,000 standard containers overland through the Jebel Ali system since the onset of regional disruptions. This substantial effort highlights the resilience of the Gulf’s trade networks and supply chains, enabling them to adapt under exceptional pressures. Ahmed Youssef Al Hassan, CEO and General Manager of DP World in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), emphasised the ongoing success in maintaining trade continuity despite these challenges.

Innovation and Expansion Initiatives

In his LinkedIn post, Al Hassan articulated that the true measure of flexibility in times of trade disruption rests in one simple question: Is trade still ongoing? The resounding answer in the GCC is a definite yes. He further noted that DB World has ensured uninterrupted services for its clients, with supply chains remaining interconnected and the integrated network adapting effectively to extraordinary conditions.

To bolster its capabilities in the UAE, DB World has expanded its fleet by adding 700 new trucks and inaugurating a new internal container facility aimed at improving service efficiency for customers. Additionally, ongoing investments in the Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) have amounted to nearly one billion dirhams in 2026, signalling confidence and commitment from clients amid current challenges.

Future Developments and Investments

Al Hassan also pointed to a preliminary agreement for the development of two new terminals in Fujairah, which are set to broaden the UAE’s trade network, offering more options for customers in the handling and transportation of goods. In Saudi Arabia, investment in logistics infrastructure is advancing, with updates to the South Container Terminal in Jeddah and the continued growth of Jeddah Logistics Park.

Moreover, Riyadh has recently opened its first multi-tenant logistics facility, enhancing operational capabilities in the region. In Oman, progress is being made on the development of the Al Rawda Economic Zone, which aims to establish a cross-border industrial and commercial platform while strengthening logistical connections with the UAE and Gulf markets.

A Promising Outlook

In conclusion, Al Hassan remarked on the exceptional circumstances currently faced, reiterating a steadfast belief in the region and its workforce. He stated, “We support this trust with investments that will add further capacity, flexibility, and reliability for our clients across the Gulf. No matter the challenges, we will continue to find solutions.”
