Dubai Driver Suspended After Intentional Vehicle Collision

In a recent ruling, the Dubai traffic court has imposed a fine of Dhs 10,000 on a young Gulf national for endangering the lives of others. The court also suspended his driving licence for one year after he deliberately rammed another vehicle twice before fleeing the scene, dismissing the victim’s request to wait for the police.

Details of the Incident

The prosecution presented the case against the accused, charging him with reckless driving and a blatant disregard for traffic laws. It was reported that the individual intentionally collided with another vehicle twice, resulting in damage to both cars and posing a serious risk to road users.

Victim’s Account

During court proceedings, the victim, who was stopped at a red light, recounted how the accused, driving an SUV, forcefully attempted to cut in front of him from the left. He was taken aback when the accused rammed the front of his vehicle. After briefly moving forward when the light turned green, the victim stopped again at another red light, only to be hit a second time by the same driver, this time impacting the door on the driver’s side. When the victim asked the accused to fill out an accident report, he refused and left the scene.

Witness Testimony

A witness who accompanied the victim during the incident corroborated his account, reinforcing the evidence against the accused. Despite these testimonies, the defendant consistently denied the charges throughout the investigation and court hearings.

Judicial Findings

The court confirmed that sufficient evidence, including witness statements and details from the case file, supported the claim of deliberate reckless driving. The incident was classified as a serious offence that threatened other people’s lives and caused substantial damage to the vehicles involved.

Ruling and Implications

Despite the gravity of the accusations, the court acknowledged some mitigating circumstances regarding the defendant. Consequently, they opted for leniency, resulting in a Dhs 10,000 fine and a one-year suspension of his driving licence from the date of the ruling. This case serves as a reminder that aggressive driving behaviour and using a vehicle as a means to assault others can lead to legal repercussions, even in the absence of physical injuries.
