In a commendable endeavour to nurture young leaders and innovators, Sharjah Youth, an initiative under the Sharjah Family and Community Council, has successfully concluded its International Adventure and Challenge Programme. This week-long event took place in the picturesque Green Mountain of Oman and saw participation from a select group of outstanding individuals aged between 13 and 18 from its eight centres across the emirate.
Emphasis on Skills Development
As part of the “Summer Together 2026” activities, the programme exemplifies Sharjah Youth’s commitment to diversifying and enhancing its offerings aimed at developing personal and leadership skills among its participants. By focusing on creating a well-rounded character, the initiative seeks to equip them with contemporary survival skills relevant to today’s fast-paced world.
Engaging Learning Experiences
The programme designed an exceptional learning experience that combined physical and intellectual challenges. The Green Mountain served as an expansive ground for exploration, featuring informative sessions on the local environment and geology. Participants had the opportunity to engage with the mountainous ecosystem, connecting theoretical knowledge with practical experiences while cultivating a heightened awareness of environmental conservation.
Challenges of Endurance and Teamwork
Participants undertook a rigorous mountain trek, which tested their endurance and strategic planning skills. This experience aimed to enhance their physical fitness, risk management, and ability to respond effectively in challenging situations. A dedicated security and safety programme accompanied all activities throughout the event, ensuring a safe environment.
Building Communication and Leadership Skills
In addition to physical challenges, the programme included practical applications of effective communication, leadership, and teamwork. This enabled participants to coordinate efforts, distribute roles, and assume responsibilities collaboratively, which fostered self-confidence, initiative, and a team spirit.
Survival Skills and Daily Life Integration
The activities bridged the gap between adventure and daily life. Participants learned to use walkie-talkies, navigate with compasses, and select appropriate camping sites. They also engaged in outdoor cooking and attended workshops focused on survival skills and adaptability, allowing them to creatively handle challenges and manage their time according to priorities.
Reflection and Future Planning
The experience extended beyond merely facing challenges; it incorporated sessions for reflection and development. These allowed participants to assess their performance, identify strengths and opportunities for growth. Additionally, a strategic planning session provided a space for introspection, goal-setting, and connecting acquired skills and experiences to future aspirations.
Through this robust programme, Sharjah Youth continues to foster a generation of capable, responsible young adults prepared to face the future with confidence and competence.
