In a significant shift within its leadership, GEMS Education has announced the appointment of Edward Staton as the new Principal of GEMS Metropole School, Motor City, starting August 2026. Staton will succeed the current Principal and CEO, Naveed Iqbal, bringing with him extensive experience and a solid track record in educational leadership.
Experienced Leadership
With over 20 years of experience in high-level educational leadership, Edward Staton has demonstrated a remarkable ability to steer educational institutions through periods of change. His focus remains firmly on academic excellence, faculty development, and achieving optimal student outcomes. Staton also has comprehensive experience in school development, curriculum advancements, and educational systems for both primary and secondary education within the UK.
A Track Record of Achievement
In his most recent role as Deputy Principal for Academic Affairs at GEMS Metropole School, Staton led several strategic initiatives that significantly enhanced the quality of education across the institution. His efforts were instrumental in achieving a 14% increase in student outcomes in the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) examinations within grades 9 to 4. Under his guidance, the school received a ‘Outstanding’ rating in the latest British Schools Overseas (BSO) inspections.
Building on a Strong Foundation
In his new role, Staton plans to build upon the strong foundation established at GEMS Metropole School, whilst maintaining the school’s esteemed culture. His goal is to accelerate progress in the areas most impactful for student learning, personal growth, and future prospects.
