DEWA Global Expands Partnerships and Operations in the UK

In a significant move to bolster international partnerships, a delegation led by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and President of DEWA Global, visited London. The trip involved discussions with senior officials from ING Bank and Actis, focusing on enhancing collaboration with global infrastructure investment firms.

Strategic Vision for Global Expansion

The visit aligns with DEWA Global’s strategy to strengthen partnerships and cooperation with specialized international companies in the infrastructure sector. Al Tayer highlighted the operational framework and developmental ambitions of DEWA Global, underscoring how, under the vision and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the city has evolved into a global hub for economy, trade, and innovation—a leading model of sustainable development.

DEWA Global’s Mission and Capabilities

DEWA Global was established to enhance Dubai’s global standing while sharing the authority’s extensive expertise and successful operational model with international markets. Backed by DEWA’s capabilities in project development, financing, technology, digital innovation, project management, and operations, DEWA Global aims to create, develop, finance, implement, and operate infrastructure projects for electricity and water worldwide.

Impressive Achievements and Performance Metrics

For decades, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has been pivotal in driving the remarkable growth of Dubai, achieving excellence in performance across multiple indicators. DEWA ranks first globally in 13 key performance metrics and holds two regional leadership positions in the utilities sector, covering production, transmission, distribution, and customer service.

DEWA has recorded the world’s shortest average electricity outage time at just 0.82 minutes (approximately 49 seconds) annually per customer. The authority boasts an impressive loss rate in electricity transmission and distribution networks of only 2%, while water transmission and distribution losses stand at 4.4%, both of which are among the lowest globally.

Advancing Clean Energy Initiatives

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is central to this transformation, standing as the largest single-site solar energy complex globally. It implements a variety of technologies, including photovoltaic and concentrated solar power, energy storage, and green hydrogen production. Currently, clean energy constitutes over 21.5% of Dubai’s energy mix, with projections indicating an increase to 36% by 2030—up from an original target of 25%. The solar park’s capacity is expected to reach over 8,000 MW by 2030, exceeding the initial 5,000 MW goal, and contributing to a reduction in carbon emissions of more than 8.5 million tonnes annually, compared to a prior estimate of 6.5 million tonnes.
