The highly anticipated Summer Sailing Camp hosted by the Dubai International Marine Club is set to conclude on 30 July 2026, following the participants’ final assessments on 29 July. Those who meet the training and evaluation criteria will be awarded a Level 1 Completion Certificate in modern sailing—a significant step towards nurturing the next generation of talent in this Olympic sport.
Progress and Development
As the camp reaches the end of its third week, participants have displayed remarkable artistic and technical progression. After engaging in a series of practical training sessions and incremental challenges, many successfully passed the pre-final assessment.
Building a Strong Foundation
Ahmad Al Smeti, Director of Sports Teams at Dubai International Marine Club, emphasised that the summer camp embodies the club’s vision of establishing a solid foundation of maritime sports practitioners. The initiative aims to identify talents at an early age, utilising a comprehensive training programme that melds instruction with practical application, all while adhering to the highest standards of safety and quality.
Focus on Personal Development
“We take pride in the significant improvements our participants have made over the past three weeks, a result of the professional efforts from our coaching staff, the commitment of the students, and the strong support from their parents,” stated Al Smeti. “Our goal extends beyond teaching sailing skills; we aim to foster personal development, instilling values of discipline, self-confidence, teamwork, and responsibility.”
A Commitment to Future Generations
Al Smeti added, “The Dubai International Marine Club continues to invest in cultivating new generations of Emirati and resident youths through high-quality programmes that align with global best practices. This initiative plays a crucial role in promoting maritime and Olympic sports, reinforcing Dubai’s reputation as a leading centre for talent development and champion-making, while affirming the club’s commitment to providing a safe and motivating sporting environment for future generations.”
Training Success and Participant Commitment
Captain Yusuf Khalid Al Bastaki, head coach at the Dubai International Marine Club and overseer of the programme, affirmed that the achievements of participants during the third week reflect the success of the training plan and the students’ quick comprehension and dedication. “The students displayed commendable focus and diligence during the pre-final assessment, successfully applying the skills acquired in recent weeks with increased confidence and independence, particularly in wind direction identification, sailing over longer distances, course adjustments, and safe return methods,” he noted.
