Abu Dhabi Police Warn Drivers Against Leaving Running Vehicles

The Abu Dhabi Police Directorate of Traffic and Patrols has issued a strong warning to drivers regarding the dangers of leaving their vehicles running while they engage in shopping or other errands. This caution extends to stops at petrol stations, ATMs, or even during brief periods for prayer. Leaving a vehicle unattended in this manner can lead not just to the risk of theft but also to the potential for the vehicle to catch fire.

Critical Safety Recommendations

The Directorate stressed the importance of not being negligent when it comes to vehicle security. Drivers should never leave their keys inside the car or keep the engine running while they are away, even for a few moments. Alarmingly, there have been instances where parents have left infants in running vehicles, putting their safety at significant risk.

Legal Implications and Regulations

According to Article 5 of Clause 4 of the Traffic and Road Rules, it is imperative to avoid parking in prohibited areas. If a driver must stop on the road, they are required to take comprehensive measures to ensure safety on the roadway. This includes not leaving the vehicle running unattended and securing it to prevent any movement during their absence. Furthermore, Article 70 of the Federal Traffic and Road Law outlines that failure to adhere to traffic signs and guidelines can result in a fine of 500 AED.

Drivers are urged to take these warnings seriously to ensure both their safety and the security of their vehicles.
