Woman and Child Die in Fujairah Truck Collision

A 28-year-old Emirati woman and her one-year-old daughter died, while her husband sustained serious injuries and their three-year-old daughter was also hurt, after their vehicle crashed into a parked truck in the Al Foz petroleum area on the Fujairah-Khorfakkan road at about 12 noon yesterday.

Vehicle struck stationary truck

Brigadier Saeed Mohammed Abdullah Al Dhahnani, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at Fujairah Police, told Emarat Al Youm that the accident occurred when the car carrying the father, mother and their two daughters collided with a stationary truck. The crash led to the death of the mother and her younger daughter, while the father suffered serious injuries and the elder child was also injured.

Emergency teams respond

He added that police and ambulance teams moved to the scene immediately after receiving the report, and the injured were transferred to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Fujairah to receive the necessary medical care. The competent authorities have begun their procedures to determine the circumstances and causes of the accident.

Safety warning to motorists

Al Dhahnani stressed the need for drivers to exercise the highest levels of caution and attention while driving, and to monitor the road continuously, particularly given the movement of trucks on roads across the emirate. He noted that some trucks may remain parked for long periods on the side of the road or near traffic lanes, which requires drivers to increase concentration, anticipate potential hazards and deal with them in time.

He also called on motorists to observe speed limits, reduce speed when approaching trucks and parked vehicles, and leave a sufficient safe distance that allows for a safe stop or a change of direction if a sudden obstacle appears, while ensuring the lane is clear before overtaking and avoiding abrupt lane changes.

He warned of the danger of using a mobile phone or any other distraction that takes a driver’s attention away from the road, stressing that a few moments of inattention can reduce reaction time and lead to serious accidents, especially on roads with heavy truck and large-vehicle traffic.

He further pointed to the importance of complying with guidance and warning signs, taking into account road conditions and traffic density, and not relying solely on the legal speed limit if the condition of the road requires a lower speed.
