Dubai’s Mohammed bin Rashid Library has concluded, in partnership with the “Nahki Arabi” Centre, the “We Have Fun in Arabic” programme, a 11-day initiative held as part of its summer activities for children aged five to 12. The programme was designed to strengthen younger generations’ connection with the Arabic language and develop their linguistic skills through interactive learning experiences that combined education with enjoyment, while also offering a motivating environment for discovering the beauty of the language and nurturing creativity.
About 130 children took part in the event, including non-Arabic speakers as well as Arab children keen to improve their language skills and build greater fluency and confidence in Arabic. The programme was tailored to suit different levels and offered an engaging educational experience that brought together learning and practice.
Supporting Arabic through creative learning
Dr Mohammed Al Mazrouei, board member of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, said the library is committed to offering high-quality programmes that help strengthen the presence of Arabic among younger generations and deepen their connection to the language through innovative educational experiences that combine learning and enjoyment.
He said the “We Have Fun in Arabic” event reflects the library’s vision of creating interactive learning environments that support children, whether they are native Arabic speakers or not, and give them the opportunity to acquire language skills through modern methods that encourage them to use Arabic confidently in daily life, reinforcing the library’s role as a platform for knowledge, learning and culture.
Positive experience for children and families
For his part, Musab Biroutia, Arabic language professor and general manager of the “Nahki Arabi” Centre, said the centre was very pleased with the collaboration with Mohammed bin Rashid Library, adding that the atmosphere was excellent in every respect and that there was genuine interest in presenting Arabic to children in a modern and enjoyable way.
He praised the library’s efforts to reinforce the status of Arabic and to deliver quality programmes that make productive use of the summer break through educational and physical activities that combine benefit and enjoyment.
He added that he also wished to commend the library’s outstanding educational environment, describing it as one of the finest venues in which the centre had presented its activities, thanks to its refined organisation, modern facilities and inspiring atmosphere that encourages children to learn and create.
He did not forget to thank the library’s management and team for their warm welcome and strong cooperation, saying they provided all the support needed and made it easier to run the workshops in the best possible way, which had a clear impact on the programme’s success.
He said the centre looks forward to continuing the partnership in the future and presenting more activities that serve children and strengthen their connection to Arabic.
Workshops, games and storytelling
The programme featured a wide range of creative and practical activities, including interactive workshops, language and movement games, storytelling and conversation exercises.
The workshops were based on a learning-through-play approach, using interactive activities and physical games to connect children with Arabic in an enjoyable way. Each workshop began with a review of vocabulary and concluded with arts and crafts activities linked to the themes covered, helping to embed vocabulary, strengthen listening and speaking skills, enrich children’s language stock and encourage them to use Arabic in everyday situations in a fun and spontaneous way.
The event saw strong engagement from children and parents alike, who praised the educational experience for combining benefit and enjoyment, and for helping children grow more confident in using Arabic while improving their ability to express themselves and communicate in an atmosphere full of interaction and creativity.
The initiative reflects Mohammed bin Rashid Library’s commitment to supporting Arabic and strengthening its presence among younger generations by offering innovative cultural and educational initiatives that create stimulating environments for learning and discovery, while helping children develop their skills and deepen their connection to the language as a tool for communication, expression and creativity.
As part of its summer programme, Mohammed bin Rashid Library continues to offer a variety of educational and cultural events and workshops for children and young people, with the aim of making productive use of their summer holiday, developing their cognitive and creative skills, and consolidating its position as a platform for knowledge and learning that contributes to building a reading and learning society.
