Dr Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, said the current level of performance within the Gulf Cooperation Council should serve as a push to strengthen the bloc’s role and improve its effectiveness on shared security.
Writing on the social media platform X, he said the GCC was founded to enhance the security and stability of its member states, adding that developing collective cooperation within the council has now become an urgent necessity.
GCC cooperation must be strengthened
Dr Gargash said that whatever its limitations may appear to be, the council’s current performance should not become a reason to accept the status quo. Instead, he argued, it should encourage efforts to reinforce the GCC’s role and increase its effectiveness in relation to common security.
“The Gulf Cooperation Council was established to enhance the security and stability of member states, and today advancing collective cooperation within the council has become an urgent necessity. The current performance, however modest it may seem, should be an incentive to strengthen the council’s role and develop its effectiveness towards our shared security, and should not entrench acceptance of the status quo,” he wrote.
