Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps navy targeted a Thai-flagged vessel on Friday evening as it attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without authorisation, according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency citing an informed source.
The source said an attack drone belonging to the Revolutionary Guard navy carried out a precise strike on what it described as a violating oil tanker in the strategic waterway.
Iran says prior coordination is required
Iran has previously said that the safe passage of any vessel through the Strait of Hormuz cannot be guaranteed unless there is prior coordination with Tehran and permission has been obtained.
The country has also warned ship owners and captains against sailing outside the designated routes, saying such a move exposes vessels to serious risks.
