Fujairah Launches Electronic Tracking for Waste and Water Vehicles

Fujairah Environment Authority has begun implementing an electronic tracking system for waste collection vehicles and water tankers across the emirate, in a move designed to strengthen oversight of transport operations and raise compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.

The authority, in cooperation with Fujairah Police General Headquarters, held a dedicated workshop to explain the mechanisms for applying Decision No. (1) of 2026 on installing tracking devices in transport vehicles, and Decision No. (2) of 2026 on installing electronic tracking devices for water tankers in the emirate, as part of efforts to enhance monitoring of transport activities and improve environmental compliance.

Workshop for sector representatives

The workshop targeted representatives of establishments operating in the waste management sector, transport and treatment companies, as well as entities involved in water transport. It reviewed how electronic tracking systems would be applied, their role in monitoring the movement of vehicles and tankers, documenting transport routes, reinforcing adherence to approved requirements, and reducing unlawful practices.

The decision requires establishments operating in the groundwater transport sector to install electronic tracking devices on vehicles and tankers transporting water in the emirate, and to obtain water transport permits for their tankers from the authority.

It states that no tanker may operate inside the emirate unless it is fitted with an electronic tracking device approved by the authority, stressing that in the event of non-compliance, the necessary legal measures will be taken against violators in accordance with the legislation in force in the emirate.

Smart, sustainable oversight

Fujairah Environment Authority Director Asila Al Mualla told Emarat Al Youm that the rollout of the electronic tracking system reflects Fujairah’s direction towards building a smart and sustainable regulatory framework, and aligns with national targets in digital transformation and climate neutrality by improving inspection efficiency, supporting data-driven decision-making, and increasing transparency in monitoring waste and water transport operations.

She added that the tracking devices will provide real-time data on the movement of vehicles and tankers and their routes, enabling the relevant authorities to monitor transport operations accurately, verify compliance with approved routes and permits, and detect any violations or practices that could pose a risk to the environment or public health. This, she said, would contribute to faster response times and greater efficiency in field inspection and oversight.

She also noted that the authority is committed to adopting best practices and modern technologies in managing the environmental sector, in cooperation with its strategic partners, in a way that achieves the optimal use of resources, advances waste management systems, protects the environment and natural resources, and supports the goals of sustainable development and quality of life in Fujairah.
