UAE and Ethiopia Join Forces to Train Seven Million Programmers

The Governments of the UAE and Ethiopia Expand the “5 Million Ethiopian Programmers” Initiative to 7 Million

In a move reflecting the desire to enhance digital skills among youth, the governments of the United Arab Emirates and Ethiopia have announced the expansion of the “5 Million Ethiopian Programmers” initiative to include 7 million participants. This decision follows the remarkable success achieved by the initiative, which surpassed its targets ahead of schedule by less than two years. This expansion underscores the growing impact of the initiative in empowering youth and equipping them with future skills, highlighting the importance of the strategic partnership between the two countries in the field of digital skills development.

Success of the Initiative and Renewed Commitment

The “5 Million Ethiopian Programmers” initiative is one of the most prominent joint projects between the UAE and Ethiopia, having achieved significant success in attracting youth to programming education. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated that “reaching five million Ethiopian programmers in less than two years is an exceptional achievement.” Ahmed emphasized that the wide interest from youth is a strong motivation to expand the initiative by adding two million new participants, opening new horizons for digital education.

The Importance of International Cooperation

In this context, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi expressed pride in the partnership with the Ethiopian government, affirming that it reflects the success of international cooperation in the digital arena. Al Gergawi noted that expanding the “5 Million Ethiopian Programmers” initiative to 7 million is a testament to its significant success. He stated, “Empowering human resources and supporting digital transformation reflect the efforts of both governments in broadening mutual benefits.”

The Initiative’s Impact on Sustainable Development

A significant part of the success of the “5 Million Ethiopian Programmers” initiative can be attributed to its focus on building digital capacities and enhancing youth readiness. As of June, the number of registered participants in the initiative reached 5,514, indicating its positive impact. The initiative aims to qualify national competencies and achieve sustainable developmental impacts in Ethiopia, supporting the transition to a knowledge-based economy.

It is noteworthy that this initiative, launched in July 2024, serves as a key element in the strategic partnership between the UAE and Ethiopia. It aims to equip youth with the digital skills necessary to face future challenges and foster innovation at the continental level.

In this way, the “5 Million Ethiopian Programmers” initiative remains a prominent example of fruitful cooperation between countries in the field of digital skills development and youth empowerment, demonstrating the importance of partnership in building a better future.
