700 Participants Engage in Second Week of Shade and Wages Initiative

Over 700 workers participated in the second week of the community initiative “ظلاً وأجراً,” organized by the Dubai Police General Command in collaboration with the Human Rights Department, the General Department of Police Stations, and the “Thank You for Your Giving” volunteer team. This initiative aims to promote values of compassion and human solidarity while solidifying a culture of social responsibility. Through engaging activities and support services, the initiative reflects the organizers’ dedication to this essential sector, which plays a vital role in the nation’s development and construction efforts.

Empowering Workers Through Humanitarian Services

The “ظلاً وأجراً” initiative included the distribution of cold water, umbrellas, and meals, providing essential services to enhance the well-being of workers. Additionally, the program featured awareness messages to elevate workers’ understanding of safety practices, especially during periods of high temperatures. Such efforts align with a broader commitment to fostering a safe work environment, particularly with summer heat reaching its peak.

Raising Awareness About Heat Stress

The initiative placed a strong emphasis on educating workers about the risks of heat stress. This initiative runs parallel to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation’s policy of prohibiting work during midday hours from June 15 to September 15. The regulations prohibit outdoor work from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM to mitigate the risks associated with heat stress, which can lead to serious health issues if proper precautions are not taken.

Community Engagement and Support

Fatima Ahmed Bouhagir, Chairwoman of the Positive Spirit Council, asserted that the “ظلاً وأجراً” initiative embodies the deep humanitarian values underpinning the UAE’s respect for individuals and their dignity. She stated, “We strive at the Positive Spirit Council to reach workers in their locations, offering initiatives that carry messages of appreciation and gratitude for their significant contributions to nation-building.” Bouhagir emphasized that “ظلاً وأجراً” is not just an event; it is a humanitarian message reflecting the spirit of cooperation among all stakeholders involved.

A Collective Thanks to Workers

As the initiative concluded, workers expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the appreciation shown. Many noted that such initiatives highlight the humanitarian and civilized face of the UAE, emphasizing the continual prioritization of humanity above all else.
