Northern China’s Sunflower Seeds Bring Unique Aroma to Dubai

Sunflower Seeds from Northern China Blossom in Dubai

As part of the Belt and Road Initiative, Dubai witnesses the arrival of sunflower seeds from Northern China, specifically from the city of Bayannur in the Inner Mongolia region, to meet the growing demand for these products in international markets. Sunflower seeds have become a source of cultural and economic exchange between China and the UAE, being transported across mountains and seas to reach thousands of families in Dubai. This collaboration stands out as one of the most significant manifestations of sustainable development that both countries strive to achieve, contributing to the enhancement of trade and cultural relations.

High-Quality Agricultural Production

Bayannur specializes in producing high-quality sunflower seeds. Located in the central region of the Hetao Plain, the city boasts rich water resources and ideal soil, along with abundant solar radiation. Thanks to an integrated industrial production system, sunflower seeds are cultivated to meet the needs of the growing Eastern market, which demands green and safe agricultural products. In this context, “Bayannur Lehe Limited Company for Agricultural Products Buying and Selling” is securing a massive order of 5,000 tons of sunflower seeds for Dubai.

Increasing Demand and Export

In this environment, Bo Le, the general manager of the company, stated: “Now is the peak season for exporting sunflower seeds. Clients abroad are racing to purchase them, and we already have orders booked for the next three months.” This unprecedented demand is a result of ongoing efforts to expand distribution, with 80,000 tons of sunflower seeds exported last year, while the quantity is expected to reach 100,000 tons by the end of this year. These figures enhance the competitiveness of Chinese companies in global markets.

Logistical Innovations and Customs Services

To ensure the smooth entry of sunflower seeds from Bayannur into the Dubai market, the local customs department has improved clearance services. Companies can now complete the customs inspection process in just two hours, down from three days. These steps contribute to speeding up cross-border trade, positively impacting transportation costs and time.

Economic Benefits for Local Farmers

The impact of sunflower seeds extends to local farmers in Bayannur, as this industry has helped improve their income levels. For instance, about 15,000 mu (1,000 hectares) of sunflowers were cultivated in the Xin Yi village, achieving an average yield of 250 kilograms per mu, while the average net income reached 1,500 yuan. These figures illustrate how cultivating sunflower seeds can boost the local economy and provide job opportunities for many farmers.
