Dubai Retail Sales Surge 40% Amidst Eid Discount Season

The festive period of Eid has driven a significant surge in retail sales in Dubai, largely due to the extended holiday and major discount events. Reports indicate that the combination of the Eid holiday and the “Big Discount Days” promotion has resulted in a remarkable 40% increase in retail sales compared to regular periods. This article explores the factors contributing to this retail boom during the Eid celebrations.

Increased Foot Traffic and Sales Growth

Dubai’s malls and retail markets experienced a notable upturn in shopping activity during the Eid al-Adha holiday, marking a growth rate that surpassed 40% compared to previous normal periods. Retail sector officials expressed that the length of the holiday—along with the extension of the “3 Days of Big Discounts” event organized by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment from three to five days—played a direct role in amplifying the influx of shoppers. The result has been a positive boost in sales across various retail outlets.

A Surge in Visitor Numbers

Shopping centers in Dubai saw a dramatic rise in visitor numbers during the holiday, with foot traffic increasing by over 50% compared to usual rates. This surge was fueled by promotional offers, discounts, and entertainment events that attracted families and shoppers alike. Nisreen Bustani, Manager of Public Relations at “Mercato” and “Town Centre Jumeirah,” noted that retail sales performance was decidedly upbeat, attributing the growth to the extended holiday duration and enhanced discount days, which contributed considerably to sales activity in stores.

The Impact on Leisure and Dining

Bustani highlighted that the spike in visitors to shopping centers positively impacted not only retail stores but also entertainment venues and dining establishments within these malls. Many consumers extended their time in shopping centers to take full advantage of the discounts, promotional offers, and entertainment activities organized during the Eid holiday. This led to increased business across different sectors within the malls.

Retail Insights from Industry Professionals

Rickesh Koutien, a sales official at a retail store, affirmed that sales activity saw a remarkable increase during the Eid holiday, supported by over seven days of vacation. He emphasized that the extension of the “Big Discount Days” to five days played a crucial role in drawing more families and shoppers to retail outlets looking to seize available offers. Sales in retail venues surged by more than 40% compared to average days, while shopper numbers in malls rose over 50%, reflecting strong consumer demand.

Mohamed Bdeir, a sales representative at a clothing and footwear store, concurred that the length of the Eid holiday and the extended duration of the “Big Discount Days” significantly enhanced retail traffic and sales. He noted a significant influx of shoppers and crowded checkout lines driven by discounts exceeding 50% on clothing and shoes. Bdeir reported a growth rate of over 40% in sales during the holiday compared to regular days, with most sales concentrated in ready-to-wear clothing, followed by footwear and leather bags, as consumers eagerly capitalized on promotional offers available during the Eid festival.

This substantial increase in visitor numbers extended beyond retail shops to encompass entertainment areas and food and beverage outlets, underscoring the holistic impact of the Eid celebrations on Dubai’s retail environment.
