Dubai Electricity and Water Authority Launches Advanced 11kV Substation

In a significant move towards enhancing its electrical grid, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has announced the inauguration of 1,994 new 11-kilovolt distribution stations during 2025. This development marks a remarkable increase of over 30% compared to the previous year’s tally of 1,530 stations. The ambitious expansion aims to meet rising energy demands and aligns with the vision to ensure sustainability in Dubai through 2030.

Strategic Growth to Meet Rising Demand

During a recent announcement, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of the authority, highlighted that this initiative is part of the organization’s broader strategy to enhance the electricity distribution network. “We will continue to work under the guidance of our leadership to expand the infrastructure of distribution networks,” he stated. This growth is not merely about infrastructure; it is designed to meet the escalating demand for both energy and water, supporting Dubai’s rapid economic and population growth.

Aiming for Global Standards

The ambitious project is set to bolster Dubai’s standing as a premier global city for living, working, and investing. The new 11-kilovolt distribution stations will play a critical role in meeting expectations laid out in the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) and the Urban Plan 2040. Al Tayer emphasized the commitment to utilizing the latest technologies and digital solutions, which will enhance performance efficiency and increase the readiness and resilience of the network.

Commitment to Sustainability

One of the key objectives of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority is to support Dubai’s transition towards carbon neutrality. The organization aims to adapt its operations to contribute positively to environmental sustainability while ensuring high-quality service. Al Tayer noted that the implementation of modern solutions is not only about meeting current demands but also about preparing for future requirements.

Extensive Workforce and Safety Standards

Engineer Rashid bin Hamidan, Executive Vice President of the Power Distribution Sector at the authority, provided insights into the scale of the undertaking. He revealed that work on the 11-kilovolt distribution stations and related tasks is set to exceed 1.45 million work hours, all while adhering to the highest health and safety standards. By the end of 2025, the total number of medium-voltage distribution stations, including both 11-kilovolt and 6.6-kilovolt facilities, is expected to reach 47,060 stations.

The launch of 1,994 new 11-kilovolt distribution stations by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority during 2025 underscores the commitment to developing a resilient power infrastructure that caters not only to present needs but also to future demands, ensuring that Dubai remains a beacon of growth and sustainability.
